When God is for You

By Venessa Holtzhausen

Gen 13:11 So Lot chose for himself the whole area surrounding the Jordan. Lot journeyed to the east, and they separated from each other.
Gen 13:12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the valley. And he moved his tent from place to place near Sodom.

We have a scenario in Genesis 13 of Abram taking Lot with him, after God called HIM, but YHWH never told Abram take Lot with him. This Lot benefited in the blessings of Abram although his heart was wicked. God will bless the sinner for the sake of the righteous.

Abram did not have any offspring it was natural for him to think of Lot as his heir, but this was not God’s idea.

Then one day the righteous Abram had to make a plan to avoid family conflict. It must have been a hard decision. Abram, being the older was suppose to choose first which direction he wanted to go, but he left it to Lot. Of course Lot, chose the best part, the Jordan and the Scriptures says that it looked like the garden of Eden. Plenty of water. Exactly what a farmer wants.

Abram, in keeping his word took the opposite direction. Immediately after Lot and Abram split, YHWH visited Abram and comforted him. God will always show up when His child do the right thing and move in His will. It seemed as if Lot got the best, but in the end, it cost him dearly. Abram became even more blessed even though it seemed that he was worse off. Why? God was on his side and he acted according to God’s will.

So what do we learn from this? Lot’s eyes and desires led him. Abram’s trust in God led him. When we walk according to God’s will and do the right thing, it might look temporarily like a bad thing, but in the end, it brings blessings. To be in God’s will, is a fruitful and blessed life. He owes us nothing. We need to get in line with His purpose for our life and then the blessings will come by itself. Psa_68:21 God is for us—a God of deliverance. Adonai my Lord has escapes from death. Rom_8:31 What then shall we say in view of these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? And even if things do not change for the better quickly, He will strengthen us to go through it and still keep our joy, at peace and in the general sense, live a grateful life. It is very important for the child of God to be in His perfect will for your life. Do not believe every prophecy, or whatever anybody else might say, even the first answer on prayers. Seek the face of God. Trust in His timing and wait for conformation. This is a safe place. Especially from sources not knowing your situation or prayer request etc. Trust and Obey!

Amen!
