Turn the Other Eye
By Venessa Holtzhausen
Gen 34:30 But Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You’ve brought trouble on me, making me a stench among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I am but a few men—they’ll gather against me and strike me—then I’ll be destroyed, my household and I.”
Gen 34:31 But they said, “Should he treat our sister like a prostitute?”
You can hear the stress in Jacob’s words. You can also read the fury in the words of the brothers.
Their sister, Dinah was defiled and Jacob actually did nothing about it. Why? Fear. Fear for the Canaanites and the Perizzites’ attack and overpowering, should he do something. Still, they defiled a daughter of Israel!! Even God is a God of justice.
Then he even went so far as to ‘alow’ the son of Hamor, Shekhem, a Canaanite!!!! God forbid the inter-marrying. Now we have a rape and disobedience to a direct command of YHWH. Why, all because of fear to act and do the right thing.
Fear is a devil. It keeps you from doing what is right, speak what is right. It’s greatest weapon is it takes dominance over your life and paralyzes you. This is something we must deal with as soon as possible.
Ask the Lord today, to free you from fear and give you a Godly boldness.
2 Ti 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of timidity but of power and love and self-discipline
Fear is a spirit. Walk in the leading of God’s Spirit!
