Genesis.
The Beloved Son
By Venessa Holtzhausen
Gen 22:2 And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.
The binding of Isaac is also called the ‘Akedah.’ This is a fascinating parallel in the Scriptures of God the Father and Abraham; Jesus Christ and Isaac. The Father brought His Son to the cross. Abraham brought his son to the altar.
Christ was examined for 3 days. The journey of Abraham and Isaac took 3 days. The altar, the cross. Isaac bore his own wood, Christ carried His cross. Abraham lifted the sacrificial knife to slaughter Isaac, God the Father sacrificed His Son.
Zec 13:6 And they shall ask him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.
Zec 13:7 Awake, O sword, upon the pastor and upon the man that is my fellow, said the LORD of the hosts; smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones.
Isaac was called ‘thine only son’ and Christ is called God’s only begotten Son. Isaac was an unnatural birth, Christ was an unnatural birth. Isaac was the son of covenant, Christ is the Son and promise of covenant.
The gospel was first ‘preached’ to Abraham and since Abraham gave his son, God had to give His son. This is covenant law.
Joh 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day, and he saw it and was glad.
