Too Late!!
By Venessa Holtzhausen
Gen 27:36 He said, “Is this why he was named Jacob—since he’s tricked me twice already? My birthright he’s taken. Look! Now he’s taken my blessing!” Then he said, “Haven’t you saved a blessing for me?”
Esau uses wordplay here that denigrates Jacob due to his anger at losing his double inheritance of birthright and blessing, i.e., the covenant promise. The narrative does not support Esau’s assertions that Jacob’s name means ‘supplanter,’ as some say; neither is his accusation that Jacob ‘took away my birthright’ in the Hebrew text. Esau had sold his birthright and given away the blessing.
Heb 12:17 For you know that later, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected. He found no chance for repentance, though he begged for it with tears.
When Esau was suppose to be serious about family and responsibility, he chose the easy life and to do as he wishes. Later, when he thought that he is going to get away with it, it was too late.
So in the end times, those who think there is still plenty of time, not taking life serious, not taking responsibility for their spiritual life, will weep terribly, but too late!
